Effects of Daebowonchun(ÓÞÜÍêªï¡) on the aged ovariectomized rat model of postmenopausal osteoporosis


Abstract
Aging is characterized by an age-dependent reduction in bone density. Pronounced bone loss by postmenopausal estrogen deficiency induces a bad effect on dynamic balance of bone metabolism. When the bone density is reduced to the level below the fracture threshold, the risk for fracture is greatly increased.
The purpose of this study is to examine what are the effects of the Daebowonchun(DBWC) on the aged ovariectornized rat model. of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
The results of the experiment are as follows,
1. Body weight in control group showed significant increase in comparison with sham, but that in DBWC-treated showed no change in comparison with control.
2. The level of serum albumin in control group showed significant decrease in comparison with sham. That in DBWC-treated was slightly decreased in comparison with control, which showed no efficacy.
3. The level of serum ALP activity in control group showed significant increase in comparison with sham, but that in DBWC-treated was significantly decreased in comparison with control.
4. The level of serum phosphorous in control group showed significant increase in comparison with sham, but that in DBWC-treated showed no change in comparison with control.
5. The level of serum calcium in control group showed no change in comparison with sham, but that in DBWC-treated was significantly decreased in comparison with control.
6. The level of serum T4 in control group showed significant increase in comparison with sham, and that in DBWC-treated showed significant decrease in comparison with control, However, that of serum T3 showed no change among the three groups.
7. Trabecular tibia strength in control group showed significant decrease in comparison with share. That in DBWC-treated showed increase in comparison with control, which showed no efficacy.
8. The ratio of trabecular bone area as well as thickness in control group showed significant decrease in comparison with sham. Those in DBWC-treated showed significant increase in comparison with control.
9. Although trabecular number showed no change among the three groups, separation only in DBWC-treated showed significant decrease in comparison with control.
According to the above these results, DBWC, has shown to be capable of preventing and curing osteoporosis caused by old-aged and postmenopause.
